MINISTRY Opportunity -- Doctors Needed to Provide Eye Care to Refugees in ATLANTA Metro Suburb

envision atlantaJoin Great Faith Vision and Envision Atlanta in providing quality eye care to the refugee community in the Atlanta metro suburb of Clarkston, GA.

Envision Atlanta is a response to the migration of peoples to Atlanta from all around the world. There are over 700 people groups represented in the Metro Atlanta area. Many are from unreached people groups and still more are from countries where international workers can't go. As a ministry of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, Envision identifies and develops missional leaders who innovate, establish, and strengthen communities of faith in key urban environments. It is our desire to see people from every tribe, tongue, and nation worship Jesus Christ as Lord!

Clarkston, GA, in the northeast metro Atlanta region, is home to approximately 15,000 resettled refugees from around the world and is the ministry hub for Envision Atlanta. Called “the most diverse square mile in America”, the local high school has students from 54 countries, speaking 47 different languages. There are an estimated 90 unreached people groups represented in Clarkston, and the great majority of refugees come from the 10/40 window.

It became clear to Ron and Wendy Baumit that refugees from unreached people groups coming to the United States is not happening randomly, but is the work of a good, sovereign God, moving people from places with no gospel access to a place where the gospel is readily accessible. The greatest felt need of refugees is friendship with an American, and this friendship becomes the foundation of trust and a portal to discussing faith and the gospel!

In September of 2018, Envision Atlanta hosted a team from Great Faith Vision, a ministry providing eye care to the underserved. Most refugees do not have insurance to cover eye care, so frequently eye health is neglected. The Great Faith Vision team provided eye exams to over 250 refugees, distributed 205 pairs of eyeglasses at no charge, and identified over 60 patients who needed further care from an optometrist or ophthalmologist!

God has blessed Envision Atlanta with an ophthalmologist willing to help provide eye care for these refugees, but they are in need of additional eye care professionals to assist in providing ongoing care. If you are in the Atlanta area and are willing to serve refugees, they would love to meet you and partner with you to provide care. Also, Great Faith Vision will be taking another team to Clarkston, GA, September 14-22, 2019, and are accepting volunteers now.
