Ophthalmologist Needed in Jamaica!

An exciting opportunity to join a Christian mission organization in Montego Bay, Jamaica. We are seeking a full time Ophthalmologist to serve and partner in both our private practices (Professional Eye Care) and non-profit organization (Mission of Sight). We have 6 locations over the western region of the island, servicing over 1 million people with two surgery center locations. You would be joining our team of over 50 Jamaican employees, including refractionists, ophthalmic clinicians, and OR technicians. A full time American optometrist also serves the out-lying clinics providing examinations, contact lens fittings, as well as pre and post-op care for surgical patients. Our main ophthalmology clinic is home to the surgery and laser facility complete with an Alcon Luxor microscope, AMO compact sovereign, SLT, Argon laser, and OCT. Additionally, due to our high cataract volume, multiple U.S. based ophthalmologists volunteer their time to operate several times a year and are more than willing to provide anterior segment training.

Mission of Sight is serving the physical and spiritual needs of the underserved and economically challenged population in Jamaica.  The Jamaican healthcare system is polarized between the free government system and prohibitively expensive private care services. Mission of Sight functions to bridge this gap by providing exceptional care in a clean state of the art building at fees which are 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of private care.

Since 2003, Dr. Doug McCloy has been a part of an effort to provide quality primary and surgical eye care to the people of Jamaica. In 2013, Dr. Doug was honored to help orchestrate the opening of the Gamertsfelder Mission and Eye Surgery Center in the city of Frome, and to date hundreds of Cataract and Glaucoma surgeries have been performed.

We are looking to hire a person who is passionate about international medicine and providing access to care for the underserved. This is a high procedural volume position as pterygium, cataracts, diabetes, and glaucoma are intensely prevalent. A graduating resident would find this an excellent transition after training as it provides significant autonomy while also affording the option for additional training by visiting ophthalmologists.

We are able to offer a compensation package which includes a base salary, production bonus, and generous vacation time. In addition, you will be provided with a company vehicle, professional liability, international cell phone package and internet. All living expenses and travel to and from the states are tax deductible. We will also assist in obtaining student loan repayment through MedSend for duration of service.
